Most Stunning Country to Visit In The World
To skip the hassle of driving, we booked a guided tour from Reykjavik Excursions that included Reykjavik hotel pick-up and drop off. Thus, I got the list of pick-up points from Excursion website before I found accommodation via Airbnb. Although meals were not provided, coach was clean, spacious and comfortable.
Following a pick-up from listed hotels or guesthouses in central Reykjav铆k, we spent the day exploring beautiful south of Iceland and its coastline on a full-day sightseeing tour from Reykjavik. Travel to the gorgeous Sk贸gafoss waterfall was wonderful. Our trip to Sk贸gar was a scenic ride through the picturesque south of Iceland, passing by amazing farms, villages and waterfalls with excellent scenery of the surrounding mountains, volcanoes and snow! Growing up in a tropical country, I never got bored seeing snow and I loved the cold.
Sk贸gafoss is a waterfall on the Sk贸g谩 River in the south of Iceland at the cliff marking the former coastline. After the coastline had receded (it is now at a distance of about 5 kilometres (3 miles) from Sk贸gar), the former sea cliffs remained, parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometres, creating together with some mountains a clear border between the coastal lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland.
The Sk贸gafoss is one of the biggest waterfalls in the country, with a width of 25 metres and a drop of 60 metres. Large amount of spray from the waterfall were consistently produced. View of Skogafoss waterfall was breathtaking despite gloomy, cloudy day. The waterfall was once a location for the filming of the Marvel Studios film Thor: The Dark World, as well as The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
It is adorned with one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls, Sk贸gafoss, whose powerful presence is matched by its rainbow crown, which can only be seen during sunny days. The climb to the top of the fall’s stairway is fairly demanding, but there are spectacular view of the surrounding landscape and also plenty of photo opportunities. Nevertheless, we were given 45 minutes to take a scroll and enjoy the marvel scenery. I spotted several extremely furry Icelandic sheep from far distance. Those short-legged creatures were round and cute.
Sk贸gafoss is a must-see attraction for nature lovers and those who want to check off Iceland’s most important sites. As I walked closer to the waterfall, I felt the mist spray on my face. Waterproof clothing is recommended because Iceland’s weather changes quickly and you can get soaked by the rain or snow, especially when it’s windy. Wear comfortable, waterproof shoes suitable for walking on uneven surfaces. Bring winter earmuffs, waterproof pants and gloves as well.
