Issho Izakaya Restaurant

Another long hectic weekdays had past. It was time to look for good food again to pamper myself. I reached Great World City shopping mall around 6pm. COVID-19 outbreak didn't hinder people from going out for Saturday dinner. There was one table for six available at one corner. The space was quite big to park two baby strollers.

Being a stay-at-home mother, I got used to arrange plates and cutleries on dining table. The restaurant was clean and tidy. They put effort to buy artistically-designed plates to increase customers' appetite though chopsticks were too common.

Original chawanmushi

We ordered one original chawanmushi for our child; a steamed egg pudding topped with ikura (salmon roe). The steamed egg was smooth and tasty like any other Japanese restaurants in Singapore. They have chawanmushi topped with truffle, which we didn't order.

Yasai tempura (6 pieces) $9

They served 6 pieces of assorted crispy fried vegetables; lady's fingers, lotus root, shiitake mushroom, yam and sweet potato. Their tendon was decent. I tried some awesome tendon
at several Japanese restaurants. I will write in my next post.

Tori Mentai Negi $5

Tori mental negi was served piping hot and taste was fine. The cook grilled chicken thigh on the skewer with Japanese leeks topped with mentaiko sauce. It was recommended in the menu. I guess it could be better if they marinated the chicken longer or added more seasonings

The cook was diligently grilled kushiyaki behind me that blocked by a glass. They skewered and grilled beef, poultry, pork, seafood and variety of vegetables. They also grilled foei gras and black angus ribeye! Unfortunately, those were not my favourite food. Eating roast meat on skewers go perfectly with sake. Japanese wines were displayed in a refrigerated glass cabinet.

Katsu Don $17

Katsu Don is a common main course in Japanese food menu. However, we never get bored eating deep-fried pork loin with savoury sauce and eggs over Japanese short-grain white rice. The pork cutlet was juicy and crispy. Hot steamed rice was coated with runny egg and soaked with sweet and salty sauce. Every spoonful of rice mixed with fried breaded pork and overeasy egg was satisfying.

Unagi Ebi Maki $22

Unagi ebi maki is tempura shrimp sushi roll topped with grilled teriyaki-glazed eel. There were 8 pieces of unagi sushi served on plate with pickled sushi ginger and wasabi. Each piece of unagi sushi was huge. It was hard to swallow one whole piece of unagi sushi at one time. I had to ate half before I consumed the remaining.

I love to eat sushi and my favourite was unagi sushi. Unagi sushi was insanely delicious. It contained cucumber and fresh prawn in the roll. Barbecued eel fillet were glazed with sweetened soy sauce (tare) and topped with fish roe. Small amount of eel blood is sufficient to kill a person, so eel is always cooked before eating the. Eel's blood contains toxic substances that cramps heart muscles.

We had matcha souffle, matcha ice cream, matcha drink, matcha mocha and matcha crepe cake. We loved chocolate lava cake but why didn't we try matcha lava cake. This luscious matcha lava cake was perfect to share with loved one and even BFF.

When I cut the cake, my favourite part of eating lava cake was to see the texture of the matcha lava and how fast the matcha lava was oozing out. This lava cake had matcha cake outside with a gooey, undercooked and hot creamy matcha inside. It smelt green tea. Matcha lava was pleasantly sweet and it had rich taste of matcha. It tasted heaven when I dipped the sugar cookie stick into matcha lava. Matcha ice cream looked nice but matcha taste was not strong.
