Nyhavn, A Colourful Harbour In Copenhagen, Denmark

Nyhavn

Copenhagen's Nyhavn, or "New Harbor," is a historical port with small-vessel traffic. Now, the town-houses are renovated and transformed into bars, restaurants and live music venues. Nyhavn is a spectacular sight to see. It’s an iconic piece of Copenhagen, which is worth to visit and take photographs. Colourful buildings line the 17th-century canal and a perfect place to watch Danish sunset. Danish author Hans Christian Andersen made his home in Nyhavn as well.

Nyhavn

Nyhavn is beautiful in the evening; colourful buildings, restaurants packed with diners, nice sailing ships and boats. This place was very busy with tourists. I was a bit regretful that I didn't go in the early morning to avoid the crowd. It's a pretty street but too overcrowed and expensive to sit down for meals. We only took a stroll and headed for other part of the city.

Nyhavn

June is the best time to visit for me. Weather was sunny, cool and low chance of rain. Nyhavn is well worth a visit and a lovely place for a stroll if you are in Copenhagen. It is easy to walk anywhere in the city centre with GPS. Buildings were well maintained and look the same in real life as they do in the brochures. In addition, there are plenty of high-end restaurants and bars with outdoor seating that allow you to just relax and watch the world go by while enjoying a drink or meal.

Nyhavn

There is no bridge to cross over to the other side. Thus, it is slightly troublesome when trying to walk along the opposite side of the river. Historical wooden sailing ships line both sides of the canal. Moreover anyone with an interest in maritime history will be thrilled to stroll along Nyhavn and marvel at the beautifully restored sailing vessels.

You can view the sights of Danish capital by coach or boat on tour of the city and harbor. When the sun was shining, there was no nicer place to walk around Copenhagen. We saw top Copenhagen attractions by foot such as City Hall, Tivoli Gardens, Gefion Fountain and Kongens Nytorv, Amalienborg Palace or Christiansborg Palace and the iconic 'The Little Mermaid' statue.

Canal Tours Copenhagen runs one-hour cruises of the city's canals and harbour, taking in numerous major sights, including Christiansborg Slot, Christianshavn, the Royal Library, Opera House, Amalienborg Palace and the Little Mermaid. The canal boat tour embarks from the end of the Nyhavn Canal and goes around the city on the water and pass through Christiania (a hippie squatters town established back in the day that still exists despite court rulings. Boats depart up to six times per hour from mid-June to late August, with reduced frequency the rest of the year. Canal Tours Copenhagen also runs a number of themed tours, including jazz and bluestours; see the website.
