Cosy And Quiet Chinese Restaurant in Singapore

Peach Garden

Peach Garden serves authentic Chinese cuisine and successfully expands its business to 9 outlets and private catering service in Singapore. They provide Cantonese-style dine-in and take away for lunch and dinner. You can also indulge in an exquisite selections of dim sum. During circuit breaker of COVID-19 pandemic, food menu is updated for take away and delivery purposes with attractive promotion.

We visited Peach Garden at The Metropolis for a casual brunch on Saturday. We took MRT (mass transit transit) to Buona Vista and it was within short walking distance to Peach Garden. There was a lift that took us to Peach Garden. We were seated next to the counter. Interior design and lighting of the restaurant appeared luxurious and cosy.

If you are a parent with babies, I would say this restaurant is baby friendly and stroller friendly. However, space is small to push your baby strollers between tables and it would be difficult to make a turn. Nevertheless, the restaurant is usually empty and quiet during lunch time on Saturday. This is because most people would prefer not to dine at a restaurant in a working place. The staffs here are friendly and provide prompt service.

Fried Yam Puffs And Baked Egg Tarts

We are big fans of fried yam puff and baked egg tarts. Yam puff or deep-fried taro dumpling ($4.80) was crispy and crumbly outside. I loved the crusty appearance on yam puffs. Pork-filled mashed yam was succulent inside and it had slightly peppery flavour. After trying yam puffs at many Chinese restaurants and food courts in Singapore and Malaysia, mostly were able to produce similar food quality. Yam puff would taste different if the pork filling was replaced with chicken.

Baked egg tarts are my all-time favourite for snacks, breakfast and tea time. Egg tarts  ($4.80) were freshly baked with buttery base and soft egg custard inside. It was aromatic. Taste was normal and same as pastry shops' and restaurants' egg tarts. Portugese egg tart is not in their dim sum menu, craving for the crispy shell with flaky crust holding a creamy custard in the center and blistered on top caused by the high heat of an oven.

Century Egg Congee With Minced Pork ($6.80)

Century egg congee is traditional Chinese delicacy. There were generous portion of minced pork and century eggs in the porridge. We shared the century egg porridge. Taste was alright.

Steamed BBQ Pork Bun ($4.50), Siu Mai ($5.20) and Glutinous Rice In Lotus Leaf ($4.20)

Steamed BBQ pork bun is always a must when you order dim sum. Bun was soft, fluffy and fragrant. BBQ pork was delicious and flavourful. Portion for steamed glutinous rice wrapped in lotus leaf was average. Lotus leaf added an interesting flavour to the rice. The glutinous rice had tea-like flavour and it was absolutely delicious. Steamed Siu Mai with fish roe was made of ground pork, prawn and shiitake mushrooms enclosed with wanton skin. Fish roe on the steamed Siu Mai was only for decorative purpose. Siu Mai filling was moist and quite juicy.

Fried Banana Prawn Roll ($5.20)

I used to like fried banana prawn roll but the outer layer was not impressive. When I chewed at first bite, the skin had no taste and it had slightly taste of cooking oil. As a comparison with other restaurants, I expected the skin to be thicker and crusty. Prawn was fresh and tender. Banana filling was not sweet enough.

Fried Beancurd Skin Roll With Seaweed ($5.50)

Beancurd roll with seaweed was prawn wrapped in fried beancurd skin and bounded by a ring of seaweed. This dish was quite savoury. However, beancurd rolls were not deep-fried evenly for all served on the plate as you can see the colour of the beancurd skin from the picture above. It should be at least in golden brown. Shapes for each rolls was not similar and it was not wrapped in elongated shape. I presumed their food should look perfect in a nice Chinese restaurant.

Peach Garden @ The Metropolis

Overall, my experience of eating dimsum at Peach Garden in The Metropolis was quite pleasurable. Given to the food portion, price per dimsum item was slightly above average. Although food was decent in terms of taste and presentation, ambience was great and comfortable. The staffs topped up our tea regularly. Baby-friendly atmosphere is important to some diners while looking for a good restaurant.
