Switzerland is one of the best travel destination. It offers a pristine nature, dense forest, crystal clear lake and fresh mountain air. After months of empty trains due to COVID-19 pandemic, the express train company finally reopens this month to embark on a journey through some of the most beautiful regions in Switzerland. 

Switzerland's panorama train routes are among the most beautiful rail routes in the world. They are part of the country's heritage and history. They pass through the most majestic mountain scenery, idyllic valleys and villages; along crystal-clear lakes and ice-blue glaciers. We really enjoyed the stunning scenic splendours and superior travel comfort.

Albula Valley

Crossing the Alps in the Bernina Express is an unforgettable experience. From Chur, Switzerland’s oldest town, we passed through the dark Schinschlucht (Schin Canyon) and over the roughly 90-metre-high Solis Viaduct into the wild and romantic Albula Valley. Near Filisur, we glided over the 65-metre-high Landwasser Viaduct – Hollywood-style.

Starting from Davos or Landquart, I was amazed with the fantastic view. As we went through the high valley of the Landwasser, Bernina Express rode through 14 tunnels and crosses 30 bridges. I saw an impressive Wiesner Viaduct, the highest brickwork bridge of the Rhaetian Railway.

The cleaning of the trains has been intensified. Several times a day, contact surfaces and surfaces such as handrails, buttons, tables, armrests and toilets are cleaned and disinfected. Cleaning is also carried out more frequently at the stations. Passengers also have the opportunity to wash their hands in the open WC facilities at the stations in accordance with the regulations. Disinfectant dispensers have been installed at staffed stations. Visitors are advisable to wear protective masks on public transport if the two-metre distance cannot be maintained. Passengers should buy tickets online, in apps or from vending machines.

Luckily, the express train was quite empty. Thus, there were a lot of space to keep our luggages aside. Seats were comfortable and clean. There was a heater placed further below the window. The express train was quiet and peaceful that allowed us to rest in the train winding its way gently through splendid scenery.

Crossing through the unspoilt mountain landscapes and rugged walls of rocks in the Bernina Express certainly is one of the most spectacular ways to do it. Children are suitable for panoramic train rides. There will be difficulties to bring your babies or toddlers with you especially you have to cuddle them and carry your luggages. You have to walk around with your luggages from your hotel to the station or eateries and from one station to another one. We bought 8-day Switzerland Rail Passes during our 2-week trip in Europe. In fact, we didn't have a lot of time to travel more places in Swiss. At one time, we were rushing to transfer to another train as the train was not very frequent.

The wide windows as near to the ceiling let you admire the spectacular views and take perfect photographs of the breathtaking scenery. Distance from Chur to Tirano is 156 km, which takes 4 hours 30 minutes. We took a simple lunch before we boarded Bernina Express train from Chur at 1pm and arrived St. Moritz at 3pm. At St. Moritz station, we transferred to another train and headed to Tirano at 5:30pm. The train did not feature a dining car. We spent our dinner in the Italian town of Tirano.
